#frameline49 “ONLY GOOD THINGS” screening last night, actor @lucasdrummond attended the Q&A moderated by Programming Manager Joe Bowman .. Drummond was met by a cheering audience after the screening, a must see film that needs wider distribution ..
Bold and defiant in vision and scope, the latest work from Daniel Nolasco, the provocateur behind Dry Wind (Frameline44) and Mr. Leather (Frameline43), chronicles a fateful gay romance across multiple decades (and possibly alternate dimensions as well). Only Good Things opens in the lush Brazilian countryside in 1984 where Antônio (Lucas Drummond from Follow the Protocol, Frameline46), an isolated farmer, nurses Marcelo (Liev Carlos), a wounded motorcyclist, back to health. Just as Antônio and Marcelo’s love story begins, forces beyond their control begin to interfere .. Fusing the gay sensibilities of Tom of Finland, Alain Guiraudie, Tennessee Williams, and Pedro Almodóvar into a cinematic landscape all his own, Nolasco proves to be a subversive romantic with his sophomore narrative feature. As Only Good Things unravels in all of its inventive, lascivious detail, lyrics from Billy Swan’s country ballad that plays over the film’s opening credits echo in the background like a distant warning signal that shouldn’t have been ignored: “Don’t be cruel to a heart that’s true.” ..
Dir. Daniel Nolasco was born in the city of Catalao, Brazil. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Cinema and Audiovisual from the Fluminense Federal University and in History from the Federal University of Goias. He has written and directed more than 10 short films, screened and awarded at festivals all around the world. His first documentary feature film is Paulistas (2017). His second documentary, Mr. Leather (2019), was screened at festivals such as BAFICI, Frameline, Montreal International Documentary Festival, Fic Vin. Dry Wind (2020), his first fiction feature film, premiered at the 70th Berlinale and participated in more than 80 film festivals. Only Good Things (2025) is his second feature film.
The film has found its distributor in Brazil and is working on global distribution .. Daniel Nolasco and Lucas Drummond are currently working on another feature film collaboration .. let’s hope that this film gets an international release so more people can watch it!
