Manila, Philippines - Solar Entertertainment Corporation hosted a press conference at the Hyatt Hotel & Casino in Manila on Monday (September 18) to announce its newest project, Tyra Bank's top-rating reality series ‘America's Next Top Model’ newest international version: ‘Philippines' Next Top Model,’ to be hosted by acclaimed actress-model-beauty queen Ruffa Gutierrez-Bektas and will be aired on RPN Channel 9.

“The only person we have in mind when we first had a meeting three months ago, of course, was Ruffa Gutierrez. I contacted Eddie (Gutierrez, Ruffa’s dad), then Annabelle (Ruffa’s mom and manager) and it was like we had a meeting of the minds. We will start in October for the preliminary selection of contestants and immediately start with the shoot in January 2007. A web site is also being launched for the show,” Wilson Tieng, Solar CEO said.

“We don’t have a time slot yet, but we will have about 13 to 15 episodes for the first season,” Mr. Peter Chan Liong of Solar Entertainement replied when asked how long the first season would run. “All format which is coming to our country is always adaped to our own, so I’ sure this will be very exciting to all viewers of the show. We’re not only, actually looking for the physical aspects of these aspiring models but also what’s good inside. There will be an extensive training, experience – each week everyone will be totally scrutinized,” Susan Trinidad, project assistant of Solar Entertainment said.

One of the most celebrated celebrities in Philippine history, Ruffa Gutierrez-Bektas followed the footsteps of celebrity parents Annabelle Rama and Eddie Gutierrez. She made films and became one of the hottest stars of Mother Lily Monteverde’s Regal Films. After winning Second Princess and Asia’s Queen of Beauty in the 1993 Miss World Beauty Pageant, she became one of the top leading endorsers of countries leading companies. One of the few Filipinas to have made it in the Hollywood scenes, she hosted the Holyfield-Lewis Heavyweight Championship Pre-Fight Special for TVKO, Halloween Haunts for Fox, Millenium Countdown in Florida, Backstreet Boys Concert coverage, and HBO Movie Marathon, among others. Ruffa continues to do charity works under her ROOF-A-Child Foundation, coordinating with Riky Reyes’ cancer children’s hospital to this day. She is currently happily married to Turkish businessman Ylmaz Bektas and has two children: Venice and Loraine. She currently heads ‘Fashion TV’ in Turkey.

“I’m really very excited on this. This is something new and fresh on television – this is a first on Philippine television. I will personally be involved on the selection process in October.
Participants should be from 18 to 28 years old, with good moral character, and must be high school graduate. And by the way, a single mom is still qualified to apply, also a Filipina-American residing abroad may also enter,” Ruffa Gutierrez-Bektas noted. More pics at
