Luminaries from Philippine show business, as well as some of the movers and shaker personalities in the Filipino-American communities in Los Angeles, attended the wedding of Ma. Regina Tan and Danny Labid, at a solemn rites held ashore the sea at a private yacht wedding last Sunday, February 11, 2007, in Newport Beach.

Among the celebrity VIP guests and principal sponsors were former Miss Universe Gloria Diaz, Philippine movie queen Amalia Fuentes, ace director Elwood Perez, Master Showman German “Kuya Germs” Moreno and his nephew (also “Walang Tulugan” host) John Nite, Rizal Vice-Governor and actor Jestoni Alarcon, former Regal star Edgar Mande, and Martin Nievera, who serenaded the newly weds.

Selected members of the Los Angeles media, including this one, were all geared up for the red carpet arrivals before the “love boat” Camelot (provided by Electra Cruises) sailed on the stretch of the Newport Beach harbor. After the brief ceremony held at the top deck, reception festivities followed with a toast from director Elwood Perez, who described the bride, Maria Regina, his favorite movie producer.

Ma. Regina Tan is a former Philippine MTRCB Chairman and producers of several movies in the ’90’s, including “Reputasyon,” where friends former Ms. Gloria Diaz and Amalia Fuentes starred with Romeo Vasquez. It also starred her daughter, Miya Nolasco, who made five movies (Mapagbigay, Tatlong Kasalanan, Unang Tibok, and Manila Girl: Ikaw Ang Aking Panaginip) before settling down a private life. Prior to migrating to California, she enjoyed a very successful career in the entertainment industry, having produced shows for stars like Regine Velasquez, Ariel Rivera, Janet Basco, Jun Polistico, Jackie Lou Blanco, and many others. She also brought the legendary R&B group Earth, Wind, & Fire to Manila for a concert. As a successful hotelier, Marie won a recognition for a remarkable job overseeing her very own hotel on Roxas Blvd.

Danny Tan, a successful businessman, and Ma. Regina Tan met in October 2005 through their common dentist Dr. Florentino Yabut. It was purely a business meeting at first for Marie who showed Danny a property for sale, but Danny was lovestruck with Marie’s admirable personality. The sweethearts dated and maintained their love to each other until they decided to exchange vows at this beautiful private yacht wedding.

Events Specialists International, headed by Monet Lu, coordinated the wedding itinerary in close coordination with Electra Cruises. L.A. balladeer Sonny Madera co-hosted the reception party while singer Ariel Arrieta provided the dinner music. Official videographer was tapped by Varon Panganiban, official photographer was Andy Tecson, and Monet Salon made up the bride and the entourage.
