John Varvatos and Converse shoe brand joined forces for an outdoor charity concert entitled “Bring Your Heart to Our House,” which featured Macy Gray as main entertainer on Sunday at John Varvatos Clothing line store at the corner of Robertson and Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, California. “Five years ago, we started this inside the store when I first opened. This annual event became bigger every year, and this time we are closing down the street on Melrose to accommodate the people who wants to get more involved in this yearly charity event,” John Varvatos said during red carpet arrivals, welcoming each celebrity who attended. The event raised $232,000 at a Live Auction which benefited Stuart House, a program of the Rape Treatment Center at the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center.

“This afternoon is not about John Varvatos. This is about the kids who are sexually abused and we should help them in any way!” the designer pleaded to the audience before opening the Live Auction hosted by Lucy Fiuczynski (President of Christie’s Los Angeles), with assistance from comedian Drew Carey and actress Heather Thomas. When actors from the hit television series Hannah Montana, Jason Earles and Emily Osment, went onstage to auction the Hannah Montana package tour, they added and offered a special treat, “The highest bidder gets a tour plus a picture taking with all the cast!” they noted. But the biggest applaud came when the American Idol finale tickets came onboard –the highest bidder called for five thousand dollars ($5,000).

Among others included in the auction were packages of a Las Vegas trip, a New York Getaway, a Maui trip; a dinner with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at the House of Blues, a dinner with Chief and Mrs. Bratton at Valentino, and John Varvatos clothing.

The John Varvatos clothing store was opened for shopping, offering T-Shirts for $25 and pairs of limited cream John Varvatos Converse shoes (which won’t be available at any stores until spring) especially priced at $100 only on that day. All this benefits the Stuart House.

At the Kids’ Corner section, kids were treated to a magical afternoon from magician Justin Kredible and enjoyed the special story times of book readers, Greg Kinnear, Angie Harmon, Jason Earles, Miranda Cosgrove, and Justin Chambers (Grey’s Anatomy). Other guests took a peek at the Silent Auction displayed adjacent to the boutique.

Highlight of the event was Macy Gray’s special performance, singing five cuts from her upcoming album entitled BIG, her collaboration with Will.I.Am music group and Geffen Records. “I am a fan of John Varvatos clothing line, in fact I’m wearing one now,” she brags during her red carpet appearance before her performance.
