Predictions for best performances and films that might be nominated for Oscar (coming out this Thursday)

by Oliver Carnay

I have been raving about ‘The Revenant’ and Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance since Day 1 and it proved during last Sunday’s Golden Globes. Despite top performance from other actors, it’s Leo that is a unanimous frontrunner this year. I’d like to see The Revenant’s winning streaks all throughout this award season. For Best Director, I’d like to say it should be between Alejandro G. Inarritu and George Miller.

For Best Actress, I’m still sticking with Brie Larson to win the Oscar. Alicia Vikander was good in ‘Ex Machina’ as well as in ‘The Danish Girl’ but if she pulls down to Best Supporting Actress nomination, Jennifer Lawrence has a chance to take the slot for Best Actress category. I would like to see Charlize Theron nominated for ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ for Best Supporting category, though.

For Best Supporting Actor, I would like to see Michael Shannon (99 Homes) and Abraham Attah (Beast of No Nation). It seems some people are pushing Jacob Trembley (Room) to get a nomination but let’s see if that happens. Tom Brady was excellent in The Revenant as well as in the other films I’ve seen him last year (Child 44, Legend, and Mad Max: Fury Road).
For my top favorite films and performances in 2015 list, read here.
