Moby Longinotto's feature documentary debut tells the story of Jheri Jones, a 74-year-old transgender matriarch, and her family in Bible Belt Mississippi. Reconciled after years of estrangement, and now living with two of her four sons in her trailer park home, Jheri embarks on a new path to reveal her true self to her grandchildren, while her son Trevor begins a surprising journey of his own. THE JONESES is a compelling documentary about an unorthodox family and the deeply complex personal bonds that make or break us.
A cinema verite and intimate documentary, THE JONESES is a multi-generational tale of long term healing and acceptance. It's about family members finding both themselves and each other through forgiveness and compassion. It's about the LGBTQ experience in working class America set in a conservative region of the South, yet optimistic and hopeful.
THE JONESES is from the executive producer of "Celluloid Closet," and the production company behind such documentaries as Emmy award winner "Medora," "Boom For Real," and "Blank City." The documentary has also played a number of prestigious film festivals including Doc NYC, the San Francisco Int'l Film Festival, Frameline, Raindance, among others.
THE JONESES is directed by Moby Longinotto. Gravitas Ventures released the film digitally on Oct 30.
