"Heart of A Lion" screening at Scandinavian Film Festival L.A.

by Oliver Carnay

Photo top right shows L-R writer/producer Aleksi Bardy, actor Jasper Paakkonen, SFFLA Founder/Director James Koenig, and Finnish director Dome Karukoski during the Q&A of "Heart of a Lion" after the screening.

The film is about a neo-Nazi guy named Teppo (played by Peter Franzen) who falls in love with a woman with a bi-racial son from a previous relationship. But when his half-brother Harri (played by actor Jasper Paakkonen) finds out his secret, he needs to convince him to keep quiet so his former Neo-Nazi brothers doesn't find out.

Karukoski brazenly displayed the brutality of the Neo-Nazi life in this drama which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year. It was mentioned in previous interviews that he is currently working on another brave film that tackles the life story of the larger-than-life gay erotic artist "Tom of Finland".

Dir. Karukoski is touted as one director to watch out for. He has another film circulating in different film festivals -- "The Grump," which will screen at the upcoming Santa Barbara International Film Festival (I've missed it at the recent Palm Springs International Film Festival!).

The Scandinavian Film Festival L.A. will continue next weekend (January 24 & 25). To find out the rest of film screenings please go to www.SFFLA.net
